This & That
This is my BIG piece of 30 count R&R linen (Old Town Blend) that I bought for Anniversaries of the Heart; however, when I got the piece of linen, (purchased online with a birthday discount) I wasn't really thrilled with the look of the fabric. It had some funky coffee stains on it in just one place. So, I remembered some distress solution I bought a while back from Lori at Not Forgotten Farms. So, getting brave (what have I got to lose, I said to myself, it was only a 33.00 piece of linen ACK), I got out the solution, sprayed it evenly on all the fabric, scrunched it up, put it on a cookie sheet and baked it in the oven on 250 degrees for about 15 minutes. This is what it came out looking like. I love it! Now it's all ready to go...just need to find some time to stitch. Dear readers, I know I'm going to stitch this piece in hand because of its huge size, but how would you handle all the fabric? I'm thinking Q-Snaps and one of those claw clips women use in their hair? Any other ideas on what to do to keep the huge amount of fabric out of the way of the stitch area? Would you fold and baste it...or what?
Next up is a project I stitched way back in September but forgot to take pictures. This was a Swan Sampler Guild project that was designed last year by our guild treasurer, Linda Schmunk, to commemorate the guild's 10th anniversary. I just had an itch to stitch it one day, grabbed myself some linen and Belle Soie "Cranberry" silk thread and stitched it up. The blackwork for the ruler keeper took the most time to stitch. I actually hated stitching that part, but love how it turned out (I guess I will do more blackwork again because I like the way it looks), but stitching it was just a pain! The wood pieces were purchased through Bloom Woodworks. What a fabulous online company to work with! As a side note though, after I got done with all the finish work and after glueing the oval part on the floss keeper, I realized I had inadvertantly left off the date 2001-2011. Doh! Not gonna take it apart...I'm just not....so it'll have to do.
I am slowly making progress on the "A Sweeter Love" sampler, but not enough for pictures, hopefully next time! Hope everyone is having a great week and finding lots of time to stitch!

I love the piece that you did for your guild's anniversary! That turned out super cute. Great job on distressing the linen, too! I can't wait to see your progress pictures. When I have a big piece of linen like that, I try to stitch from left to right and then just roll the extra fabric up in my left hand as I go. I let the extra fabric on the right just hang. With ATS, which was a vertically long piece, I rolled up the extra linen into a clean small t-shirt and clipped it with a hair clip, then unrolled as needed.
Happy St. Valentine's Day!
Pretty Sampler Guild stitching! You did a geat job with that fabric!
Love how the fabric turned out ~ beautiful!
And your guild piece is so sweet!
The guild project is just too cute!!! And your linen came out out just beautiful. I just roll the extra linen tightly and hold it in my right hand since I am a leftie :-).
The guild project is so pretty! Bummer about forgetting about the dates. Oh well! Love the fabric for AotH! When I stitch large pieces, I just sort of drape the extra fabric over my hand and arm and stitch away. It's hard to explain. lol!
Love your guild project! Looks great even without the date! You did a great job on the fabric and I can't wait to see progress pics! I stitch on scroll rods so not sure what I'd do with all that fabric'. Siobhan's idea sounds good. Happy Valentine's Day!
It turned out BEAUTIFUL!!! I used my very last Tablespoon of Postum to dye 4 yards of muslin a year ago...I did that exact technique...but put rock salt on it...and it did amazing things!!! Anyhoo....i LOVE how yours turned out!!! LOVELY!
The fabric turned out so pretty, Cathy!! Love your guild piece too - oops about the date!! :)
I love the fabric you dyed. I'm just not brave enough yet to try. I'm reading with interest the comments about working on a large piece of fabric. I am still struggling with Mary Wigham.
Don't you just hate when you finish-finish something to see you've missed an item. It's like paying tons of $$ for framing and then seeing a stitch not crossed! Oh well, we aren't perfect, are we LOL! Your linen is beautiful and looks like it is just begging for a beginning. I'm curious - are you going to personalize Anniversaries? So many people have. I don't have that one in mind yet - but I do have the three seasons and the Christmas lurking in the sewing studio! Love your profile pic - is it new or did I just simply notice late?
Your fabric is fabulous! Great job on it. I'm always scared to try, but usually the results are better than the original piece.
Great finishing on your Swan pieces too! Love it!
I can't find your e-mail address on here! Can I paypal you an amount for the new toy added to Betsy's toy chest etui? E-mail me at Hiddenheart@kellerits.com
Thanks so much!
