This summer has been full of happy events such as new babies and weddings...and then some sad events, a few funerals. My dear friend, Debby, passed away September 1st. She had struggled with ovarian cancer for a little over a year.

Oh how I miss her! She was a fabulous friend, was the Scrapbooking Queen of all time, and would do anything for anyone! She always came to my neighborhood stitch day. She loved to do punch needle and had many fabulous projects. Stitch group won't be the same without her, but we'll keep going in her memory. Her birthday was July 21st and so for her birthday a few of us got together and made her a lap quilt for her to enjoy. Then we invited all the women in the neighborhood and ward (church congregation) over for a little quilting bee to hand quilt our masterpiece! The backing was made up of squares that everyone had written a message to her and signed. I was lucky enough to be able to help piece the quilt (I did some of the cutting and pressing)and bind the quilt! Here's just a quick photo I took of it while it was at my house getting bound. She loved it! And we had so much fun making it!
I have been stitching this summer, but maybe my motivation was not all that great...so it's been slow going. I started a piece for my son Scott, and his wife Kim. Their 10th wedding anniversary is next year and so I'm doing a commemoration piece for them. Plum Street Samplers "A Sweeter Love." Here is my progress to date:
And on the lighter side of things, the other day I went into the bedroom for something and realized that my cute husband had made the bed for me...after all...it was Saturday and he was the last one out! Any of you have pillows you put on your bed? Do you arrange them just so? Here's how I do it:
And here's how he did it!
Gotta love the hubs!

lol on your DH's handiwork with the pillows! Definitely something my DH or son would do too.
I'm so sorry about your friend Debby. It's so hard to lose someone special to us and she sounds like just that sort of someone. Hugs to you. What a beautiful quilt you all made for her too.
Love the Sweeter Love piece for your son and DIL too. Very pretty!
Oh heck--he can come make my bed anyday. It looked fabulous to me!! lol
I knew Debby. I believe at one point she was in my ward growing up. They're a very sweet family and I'm sorry to hear about her passing. Glad she was able to enjoy the beautiful quilt you all made her.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. {{hugs}}
On a funny note, I showed ryan the pillows...and his comment was, "So....what's the big deal?" He was dead serious...but he never has to worry about making the bed...I'm ALWAYS the last one out. LOL!
So sorry about your friend. That's never easy but I am glad you have good memories. Your stitching progress is very sweet. Thanks for the chuckle...loved the pillows.
So sorry about your friend...I know you'll miss her. Such a sweet gesture of love with the lap quilt.
Your start on Sweeter Love is beautiful, I love that sampler.
I had to LOL @your hubbies pillow work! How wonderful that he's the kind that will make the bed at least :)
I've been thinking about you! I know summer is always so busy--my mojo always seems to take a bit of a nose dive and I struggle with blog fodder. I think autumn - spring is easier because you're in hunker down mode. ;)
I'm so sorry about your friend Debby. How sad. Big hugs to you. That quilt is gorgeous--I'm sure her family will treasure it & the scrapbooks that she made.
Sweeter Love will be a wonderful gift for your son & DIL!
LOL at the pillows!! Definitely something my DH would do.
(((Cathy))) I'm so sorry for your loss. What a sweet quilt you all made for. I'm sure she really appreciated it.
I love your Sweeter Love - it's definitely on my stitch one day list. And too funny about the pillows.
Lots of hugs!
I'm so sorry that you lost such a treasured friend. I'm sure her family will treasure the quilt and the love that went into creating it.
Love your stitching - great piece!
I can't stop laughing about the pillows!! My husband is the same!! Gotta love them for trying though!
The "Hubs" pillow arrangement is hilarious! R made my bed this morning while I was in the shower. I love it when he does that!
I have been enjoying the weather too. Wish it was like this the whole year...but...if it was, I guess we wouldn't appreciate it as much.
Miss you guys!
That's a great pic of Debby !! I know she was so special to you. Love the sampler for Scott and Kim...it's perfect.
And...that hubs of yours...what a guy!! Love the pillow arrangement !!! LOL
It's hard losing a friend, so so sorry. I'm sure she loved her lap quilt and felt all that love poured into it and wrapped around her.
The pillow thing was hilarious. That's exactly the difference. Mine are all lined up in a certain order and DH just throws them on helter skelter, but they look good too. Makes me wonder if I should lighten up a bit - Nahh.
Cathy,
I just dis overed your blog.
I am so sorry for the loss of your dear friend. The quilt you helped make for her was beautiful and I am sure the memory of her receiving it must be a very special memory for you.
The sampler you are doing for your son and dil is really lovely.
LOL, my DH doesn't make the bed ;-).
I am so sorry about your friend Debby!!!! My DH's stepmom had ovarian cancer and died this summer. She was only 52, I hate cancer. It was so sweet to do a lap quilt for her and it's beautiful.
Hope you get lots of stitching done!!!
