First up is a freebie pattern I got at the Shepherd's Bush Retreat. It is a Workbasket design stitched with Crescent Colors, Red Manor. I lined the inside of the box with a color copy of a fat quarter of Moda Glace' fabric.
Next up is a Blackbird Designs Reward of Merit chart called Buttons and Pins. It's actually designed to be a pin cushion, but given my obscession with boxes...it became a box.
These box tops were a lot of fun to stitch. They took longer to stitch than I thought they would, I always think these little stitches will take an hour or two...whatever!
Now I have a little funny story: Last Sunday night Wayne and I took a little stroll to meet some neighbors that live closeby. The husband invited us in so he could show us his new house and apologized to us that he was cleaning. Rugs were up, mop out, vacuum out, etc...you get the idea... I noticed his wife in a room with her Ott-Lite on, sitting at a table stitching and watching a movie. The husband was chatting us up and we him...I finally asked, "Does your wife stitch?" "Oh yes," he said, "all the time." There she was sitting in the bedroom...stitching away...while HE WAS CLEANING THE HOUSE! What a husband! On the walk home Wayne said he was sorry...sorry for what??? Sorry that he doesn't clean the house??? I don't think so...he wasn't that sorry...I know it...GAH!!! I didn't train him right approximately 35 years ago...

wow! What a husband! LOL! That's a cute story. :) And your boxes are adorable!
Wow, he's well-trained! My BF is pretty good about doing things while I stitch. It's the doing things while I'm at work that he's bad about. lol
Love your boxes!!
Yep, I would say you missed the boat on that one Cathy. LOL :)
I love the rectangular box finish! Did you paint the box?
Such beautiful box finishes! My gosh, Cathy, they're wonderful! And that story about the husband. lol! Well, she's a lucky lady! That's all I can say! I'm hoping to persuade my DH to clean the house for me for Mother's Day. That's about it for him cleaning around here. :D
Cute boxes!!! Love them both.
Your boxes are beautiful Cathy! I love them both! Too funny about the lady stitching and the husband cleaning. I didn't train mine right either! LOL!!! :)
Love your little boxes! The BB one is perfect finished into a box. Perfect for buttons!
I know what you mean about taking longer than you think. Everything in my life seems to be that way!
What a funny story. How great to have a stitching friend nearby. I wish I had trained my hubby to clean while I stitch!...That would be the day. LOL!
Have a great one!
I love your new boxes. Good job sister!! Both of them are FAB!! xoxoxo
That rectangle box with the birds on it is TOO DIE FOR!!! Next time I come to Utah, I need a box lesson. Keep up the good work!! Don"t feel bad about training Wayne, I haven't trained Branden either. XOXO
What fantastic finishes, Cathy!! Wow, really clever. I had to go look up that Moda fabric, too. ;) Perfect choice for the inside of the box. I always find it a stretch to think beyond framing my stitching so I need to start writing this stuff down. Great finishing!
LOL at that story! Talk about training a husband right. My DH is good about helping sometimes... if I look past his tendency to stuff everything into drawers. LOL
Have a great Mother's Day!
Love, love your blog...new follwer and relatively new blogger. I really love your story about the cleaning hubby, while the wife stitches - it would be so cool for that to happen often! I really think your boxes are fabulous...nothing wrong with more boxes.
Should have trained my husband better too, he doens't even know where the vacuum lives. Cathy, on your 4 November 2009 post you showed your gorgeous BBD Coxcomb Box finish. Please can you remember what the thread colours were - I believe they were Crescent Colours. Thanks, Sandra (sandsessay at btinternet dot com)
